PSLE Oral ExaminationTo all my students taking the P6s Oral examination, remember the most important part of something stressful is to NEVER FORGET TO BREATH in and out. Learn to be in control of your own heartbeat rather then to allow it to control you. Controlling your breathing is a method in which you can control the speed of your heartbeat. forcefully panting in and out will accelerate your heartbeat and taking in long and deep breathe, will help slow down your heartbeat. When you are nervous, remember that breathing helps so do your breathing exercises. Just a few tips to help you on your way to a better Oral Examination results.
1) Don't pretend to have an Accent or slang your words if you don't have an accent naturally as faking an accent or slanging just makes it sound weird and pretentious.
2) Reading a passage slow and steady with added crescendo and decrescendo at the right part of the passage will help the teacher understand your emotions behind the words as well as to hear you articulate every single word clearly.
3) When you have made a mistake, don't panic! Just start from the last full-stop and with CONFIDENCE, read that sentence again. (Remember that 1 mistake is already made, don't stick your tongue out, say "OPPPSSSSS", say "AIYAH!" or any other form of unnecessary body gestures as that just shows a lack of confidence and add on to the mistake already made)
4) Tile your paper and hold it up from the table as placing it flat on the table will just make you bent your neck (closing your windpipe) and read to the table. (Clarity is lost)
5) NEVER stop reading the passage halfway even if you are struggling, finish it as confidence is half the battle won.
6) LASTLY, BREATH IN and BREATH OUT! We all need air to survive so just do it.
I personally feel that you can't practice charisma, but everyone of us have a natural form of CHARM and fluency when we speak to others. Just speak the way you speak to friends, family and even teachers, and you will do well. Thinking that it is an examination will just make you way too nervous to concentrate on the words you have in front of you.
Lastly, Good luck and all the best. I believe that you will all do well and not disappoint you band teachers, instructors nor any of your teachers.
